Low Back Pain

The most common reason patients book here. Massage therapy is commonly used for pain relief and to help you keep moving while the episode settles.

What is going on

Most low back pain is non-specific: no single structure is clearly to blame, and imaging often shows changes that are also present in people with no pain at all. That does not make it less real. It does mean the useful questions are about function — what you cannot do, and what makes it better or worse.

How massage therapy is commonly used

Treatment addresses the low back, gluteals, hips and often the mid-back and abdomen. Evidence supports massage therapy as one option for short-term relief of low back pain, most usefully in combination with staying active.

For patients who sit or drive for long hours — a common pattern in this valley — we look at how long you go between position changes, which is often more useful than any single stretch.

What to expect over a course of care

Acute episodes commonly settle over two to six weeks with one or two appointments a week early on. Longer-standing back pain is usually managed with a session every three to six weeks. We will tell you when we think you have plateaued.
